Firsts in the Room: Supporting First-Gen Professionals

We often assume that once a first-generation student crosses the graduation stage, the "first-gen challenge" is resolved. But the truth is, the hurdles don't disappear with a diploma. First-generation professionals aren't just the first in their families to navigate higher education—they are also the first to navigate formal career tracks, institutional frameworks, and professional networks that require a degree. Without a family blueprint for workplace dynamics, these talented individuals frequently have to decode the unwritten rules of the professional world entirely on their own.

The History of Immigration

This course explores the historical and legal framework of the U.S. immigration system, including policies and practices that have shaped immigration experiences over time. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the complexities of the immigration process while building empathy, breaking down common stereotypes and bias, and gaining a new lens about the immigrant community.

Connecting Across Cultures

We often assume that a clear message is universal, but how we share information, give feedback, and build trust is deeply shaped by cultural context. When we don't understand these underlying dynamics, simple everyday conversations can quickly lead to missed expectations, misaligned priorities, and fractured trust. This interactive workshop will explore important communication differences across cultures to build a workplace that connects all individuals. Attendees will leave equipped to navigate cultural differences to build trust and effective communication.
